Workshop Objectives
The main objective of this workshop is to provide insights into how
GIS with its associated spatial data can be utilized to support a
broad range of decision making processes.
To accomplish this goal, workshop participants are given an
opportunity to explore via examples and in tutorials socio-economic,
business and management as well as criminological, political and demographic GIS
applications. Each participant should have acquired by the end of
the workshop the
necessary skills
- to import common geo-referenced data into Maptitude
and use the data rich environment, which comes with Maptitude.
- to perform common spatial inquires within and across
different thematic map layers.
- to apply frequently used spatial analysis techniques to
address research questions with an underlying spatial domain.
- to convey their research
findings effectively to their peers with informative and
appealing maps.
- to proceed independently in acquiring new GIS skills and to
seek, if
needed, help from a GIS specialists.
Workshop participants, who are interested in obtaining an
unofficial certificate, can do so by completing a small GIS project
after the workshop.
The Maptitude GIS SoftwareWe will be using the comprehensive, yet
comfortably mastered GIS software Maptitude by Caliper Inc. Maptitude
combines low costs of ownership with high levels of productivity and
a benign learning curve. If needed, Maptitude integrates well with
other more specialized spatial and aspatial data analytics
environments. It is packed with a wealth of data supporting
immediately many decision making tasks.
Feel free to explore Caliper's
training videos to decide if this software and its associated
datasets will help you
to accomplish your spatial analyses and mapping tasks. Online tutorials
to perform specific GIS tasks with Maptitude can be found at Richard
Marsden's website
https://www.mapping-tools.com/howto/ .
Post-Workshop Tasks
